First visit
It is recommended to schedule the first dental visit after the eruption of
the first tooth.
Children who see a dentist from an early age are less likely to fear dental
visits or develop a cavity.
This visit gives the dentists an opportunity to provide helpful information
to the parents

Dental exam
Your first appointment will probably include an examination, X-rays and in
some cases study models. We will usually take a complete medical and dental
History as well as your initial complaint.
Then we will discuss your diagnosis and present our recommendations for the
most appropriate treatment.

X-rays
Numerous x-rays are available to the dental professional in order to achieve
adequate diagnosis of the surrounding structures of the oral cavity.
The LaSalle dental health centre is licensed by the health and social services
minister to operate dental x-rays within the premises. Furthermore, a physician
regularly inspects the x-ray equipments in order to perform secure dental examination
to the patients.

Dental cleaning
Regular brushing and flossing at home will prevent the accumulation of dental
plaque and bacteria that causes cavities and gum disease.
The dental plaque that is not removed will hardened and transformed itself
into calculus (also called tartar). The toothbrush or the floss is ineffective
in removing the calculus and therefore the dental cleaning is necessary to
prevent gum disease.
The dental cleaning removes stains and enhances your natural smile.

Sealants
Dental sealant is a thin coating that is applied to the biting surfaces of
back teeth to protect the deep grooves where cavities often begin.
Application is relatively fast, requires no anesthetic and is painless.

Composite restorations
Because of aesthetic reasons, only a composite (Natural looking restoration)
can be applied on the anterior teeth.
On the other hand, there is still an existing debate on the application of
composite (colour tooth restoration) or metallic restoration (amalgam) for
posterior teeth.
In the past the composites weren’t resistant to fracture in the posterior
segment that was favorating a metallic restoration.
Today, technologies have made composites much more resistant to fracture which
explains why it is commonly used for posterior teeth.

Tooth whitening
We apply a whitening gel during an office visit, or give you a custom-fitted
tray to wear at home.
Depending on the severity of the discoloration you may a notice a difference
after only a few applications.
Whitened teeth can re-stain with exposure to staining agents (coffee, tea,
red wine etc..). If so touch-ups can help maintain your smile at its brightest.

Complete and partial dentures
Removable partial dentures offer tooth replacement (one or several) by anchoring
metal clasps to other natural teeth. Removable denture should not be wear at
nighttimes and when brushing the remaining teeth.
Removable partial dentures are a good alternative when numerous teeth are missing
and/or when adjacent teeth cannot support a bridge.
Complete denture replaces all the natural missing teeth.

Bridge
A bridge is an artificial replacement
for a lost tooth. It may be used in combination with dental implants,
crowns or inlays.
It is important to replace lost teeth to prevent healthy teeth from shifting
out of position, which can lead to further tooth loss. In addition, your ability
to chew and your nutrition may be compromised if you are missing teeth.

Crown
A crown is a cover placed over a weakened or decayed tooth. Crows usually strengthen
and protect your teeth, as well as enhance your smile.

Dental veneers
Veneers are strong, thin shells of acrylic or porcelain, which are bonded to
the front of your teeth. A great smile could be achieved by using dental veneers.
Veneers can help correct stubborn stains, gaps between teeth and much more.
top
Inlays
Inlays are aesthetic obturations made of porcelain or composite, which procure
a natural looking tooth.
Inlays offer the same advantages of a dental filing but are more resistant
to fracture.

Orthodontics
Orthodontics is the art of aligning teeth and jaws in a desired position. Braces
and other removable or fixed apparels will help achieve that desired position.
The longevity of the treatment varies from one case to another depending on
the initial situation.
It is clear that the treatment for a young person is faster than for an adult
because the jaws and the teeth are in developpement.
Adults could also benefit from orthodontics with very good results.

Mouth guards
According to certain studies, a large number of persons consult a health care
professional for dental injuries resulting of athletic activities.
These injuries can occur at any age: Child, teenager or adult.
A mouth guard should be worn during any activity where contact can be made
or a fall could occur. These activities include but are not limited to: Ice
hockey, football, baseball, basketball, skateboarding, roller-skating, tennis,
racquetball, boxing, lacrosse, etc..
When one considers a single lost tooth can cost thousands of dollars, a well-engineered
mouth guard is a very affordable alternative.
Compared to a prefabricated mouth guard (available at most sporting stores)
a custom-made mouth guard by your dentist will provide a proper and comfortable
fit as well as minimal interference with speaking and breathing.

Dental implants
A dental implant is a small titanium post that is inserted below the gum to
serve as an anchor for an artificial tooth. Dental implants have the advantage
of replacing a natural tooth without impending on the adjacent natural teeth.

Endodontics (root canal):
If a tooth is damaged by decay or injury, the nerves inside the root can become
infected. The treatment for infections of the root is called root canal therapy.
An infected tooth might not be painful initially. If the infection is not treated,
it can lead to severe pain, abscess and tooth loss.
Fortunately, the infection can be painlessly removed, and the tooth can be
restored to normal function.

Periodontics:
Gum disease is an infection caused by the bacteria in plaque. It attacks the
bone, ligaments and gums that support your teeth.
Early symptoms are: red, puffy gums that bleed when brushed or flossed, bad
odor or taste in the mouth. Without treatment, periodontal disease leads tooth
loss.
Trough proper treatment, the loss of teeth can be prevented.

Halitosis
Bad breathe, which is commonly known as halitosis. In 90% of the cases, halitosis
originates in the mouth. 10% arise from extra oral causes. This phenomenon
is caused by the decomposition of bacterial plaque, debris and food particles
by the action of anaerobic bacteria. This deterioration leads to the formation
of gases that smell. This becomes part of one's breath and causes it to lose
its natural smell.
People who are affected want to restore their normal breath in order to eliminate
the barriers that often exist with their partners, their friends and their
colleagues at work..
